Wenger reveals attacking duo are back in contention vs Liverpool
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck are back in contention for our trip to Liverpool this weekend.
Giroud sat out of FA Cup win at Sutton United last month due to a minor knock after being an unused substitute against Hull City the week prior.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference today, Wenger confirmed that the French international is available and in contention to take on Liverpool on Saturday evening.
Welbeck was left out of the squad to face Sutton last time out due to concerns over the striker playing on an artificial pitch so soon after recovering from a serious knee injury.
Instead, Welbeck continued to build on his fitness by making a couple of appearances for the Under-23’s and Wenger has now confirmed that he’ll be back in the first team squad for the trip to Merseyside this weekend.
The boss told Arsenal.com:
on Olivier Giroud…
Olivier Giroud is back in the squad as well.
on whether Danny Welbeck is ready to start…
He’s in contention. Yes [we’ve been careful] because he had ups and downs with his response to his knee problem. I followed the advice of our medical staff.
Obviously it’s good to hear that both Giroud and Welbeck are available this weekend as it means we should have a very strong squad at Anfield with plenty of attacking options to choose from.

Personally, I’d like to see Welbeck given a start up front with Alexis Sanchez playing on the wing and Giroud being used as an impact substitute against Liverpool but we’ll have to wait and see what the boss decides.
