Wenger confirms fresh injury blow + positive news on midfield duo
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Laurent Koscielny has picked up an Achilles injury but Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be back in midweek.
Koscielny was substituted at half time during our 2-2 draw with Manchester City this afternoon after picking up an Achilles injury during the first half.
The centre-back has been plagued by Achilles problems in the past but Wenger isn’t sure how long the injury is going to keep Koscielny out for this time around.
The French international is almost certain to miss Wednesday’s clash with West Ham so it looks like Gabriel is set to deputise alongside Shkodran Mustafi.
Ramsey was surprisingly missing from the squad against City today and it soon emerged that he’s suffering from a calf injury but Arsene says the midfielder could return to face the Hammers in midweek.
Oxlade-Chamberlain also missed the City game with a hamstring injury but it’s not serious either as the boss says he could also be involved against Slaven Bilic’s side on Wednesday.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Koscielny, Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injuries…
I don’t know how long Koscielny will be out for. He came off at half-time with an Achilles problem. How long will that last? I don’t know. Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain have a chance of being available on Wednesday.
Coquelin and Xhaka were pretty dreadful today so hopefully Rambo and The Ox are fit to start in midweek as we need new life in the middle of the park.
The draw against City has left us seven points off the top four so anything other than a win over the Hammers and we can forget about Champions League football next season.
