Arsenal boss confirms big injury blow ahead of Tottenham
Laurent Koscielny is a doubt for Arsenal’s huge trip to Tottenham on Sunday after picking up a knee injury during last night’s win over Leicester City.
Koscielny was once again selected in the middle of our new-look back three but he went down clutching his right knee after landing awkwardly whilst making a headed clearance in the second half.
The French international was able to continue after receiving treatment but he was clearly in some discomfort and we were unable to take him off having already made all of our substitutes.
Speaking after the game, Arsene Wenger confirmed Koscielny picked up a knee problem but refused to speculate over how long the defender might be out for until the injury was further assessed.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
“Koscielny has a knee problem but I don’t know how bad yet, I have to check.”
It’s now going to be a nervous wait to see whether Koscielny will be ruled out of Sunday’s trip to White Hart Lane as it would be a devastating blow if he were to miss out.
Not only would we lose our best defender, but we’d struggle to stick with the 3-4-3 formation that’s led to three consecutive victories as Shkodran Mustafi is still nursing a thigh injury.
We do have Per Mertesacker but the German hasn’t played a minute of first team football this season so it would be a huge risk to throw him in to such an important game.
Let’s pray that Koscielny’s injury isn’t anything serious but having watched it a few times, I’d personally be surprised if he were passed fit to face Spurs on Sunday.
