Arsenal boss ready to pay £50m to sign 20-goal hitman
According to a report in the Daily Star, Arsenal have renewed their interest in Alvaro Morata and will battle Man Utd and Chelsea for his £50m signature this summer.
Despite a growing number of fans calling for Arsene Wenger to leave when his contract expires next month, the Frenchman is expected to sign a new deal and oversee a huge squad overhaul.
Among his priorities is to bring in a new top class striker and it appears Wenger is now ready to renew his interest in one of his long-term targets – Alvaro Morata.
The Spanish hitman has been linked with Arsenal several times in the past and we were reportedly keen to bring him to the Emirates last summer before he re-joined Real Madrid from Juventus.
Predictably, Morata has struggled to hold down a first team place at the Bernabeu and the 24-year-old has been tipped to find a new club this summer in search of regular football ahead of next years World Cup finals.
The Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal have now joined the race to sign the talented Spaniard but we’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd.
However, the newspaper says Wenger is ready to meet Madrid’s £50m valuation to get a deal done ahead of our rivals and finally get his hands on Morata.
Despite starting just 16 games so far this season, Morata has still managed to score an impressive 20 goals and provide a further 6 assists so he’d certainly offer another threat in the final third if we could get a deal agreed.

However, Chelsea appear to be the front-runners to sign him and I don’t think we’ll have any chance if we can’t offer Champions League football.
I’d love to see Morata come to Arsenal this summer but realistically I think we’ll be looking further down the list of top class strikers….
