Arsenal ready to splash £34m on Brazilian international [talksport]
According to a report by talkSPORT, Arsenal are readying a £34m bid for Juventus full-back Alex Sandro as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his defence this summer.
While many fans want Wenger to walk away when his contract expires, it looks increasingly likely that the Frenchman will sign a new deal and oversee a huge squad overhaul this summer.
A new left-back appears to be a priority and while there have been widespread reports suggesting we’ve already agreed a deal to sign Sead Kolasinac, we’re also being linked with Alex Sandro.
talkSPORT are citing a report coming out of Italy that claims Wenger has identified the Brazilian international as a key target after being impressed by his form at Juventus.
The 26-year-old has made 40 appearances for the Old Lady to help them stay on course to clinching the Serie A title while they will also face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The report says Juve are preparing a new contract for the attacking full-back to ward off interest from Arsenal but we’ll still test their resolve with a formal £34m offer.
The Italians paid Porto £22m for Sandro in 2015 so they could turn a profit if they wanted to cash-in but you’d have to question whether the player would even want a move to north London.
At Juve, he’s guaranteed trophies and now they are back as a European superpower who could win the Champions League this season so would Sandro swap that for playing in the Europa League and scrapping for fourth? I doubt it.
Anyway, I’m not sure how much truth there is behind this report as we’ve almost certainly sealed a deal to sign Kolasinac with Sky Sports reporting yesterday that his arrival will be announced on July 1st.
So forget Sandro, Kolasinac will be our new left-back next season….
