Influential Arsenal star ruled out until October
According to a report by TuttoMercatoWeb, influential Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla isn’t expected to return from his Achilles injury until October.
Cazorla has been on the sidelines since aggravating a long-standing Achilles injury during our 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets in the Champions League on October 19th 2016.
Arsene Wenger initially hoped it was just a minor setback but the injury proved extremely difficult to shift and Cazorla was eventually forced to have surgery in December to try and reduce the inflammation.
It didn’t work, and the 32-year-old had to undergo a second operation at the start of 2017 and despite hopeful updates from Wenger suggesting Santi could be fit before the end of the season, the Spaniard is no closer to returning to action.
Many thought the midfielder was being primed to return to pre-season training in July, however, the latest report from TuttoMercatoWeb suggests that Cazorla will in fact not be back in training until October.
If true, we should question the clubs decision to hand him a new one-year deal as there is no guarantee as to how long it will take him to get back to his best and it could be 2018 before we start to see the real Cazorla again.
The diminutive playmaker has been sorely missed this season as our early season form evaporated once he got injured so it would be devastating if he has been ruled out until October.
However, I’m not too sure how much we should read in to this report from TuttoMercatoWeb as they used a picture of David Ospina instead of Cazorla in the story!
