Arsenal boost: Key man ready to sign bumper new contract
According to the Mirror, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to reject Liverpool’s advances and sign a lucrative new contract extension with Arsenal over the coming weeks.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has just 12 months left to run on his existing deal with Arsenal and there have been strong rumours suggesting he’ll leave the Emirates this summer.
The midfielder initially struggled to progress following his move from Southampton in 2011 and many newspapers claimed The Ox was keen for a fresh start to rejuvenate his stagnant career.
However, the 23-year-old began to find some real form during the second half of last season and impressed in a central midfield role before excelling in the right wing-back position during the closing stages of the campaign.
It appears that form has convinced Arsene Wenger to keep hold of the England international as the boss is understood to be determined to see-off competition from Liverpool to tie Oxlade-Chamberlain down to a new deal.
And it looks like we’ll succeed as the Mirror claim that The Ox is ready to snub interest from Anfield and sign a new extension worth around £100,000-a-week.
The newspaper says negotiations with the players representatives are well underway and the club are confident that Oxlade-Chamberlain will sign his new deal over the coming weeks.
If true, it would be a huge boost as he’s just starting to show us what he’s capable of and I would have been gutted to see Oxlade-Chamberlain fulfill his potential at another club.

Arsenal have a busy summer ahead with several players contracts up for renewal and plenty of incomings/outgoings to negotiate so it will be a big relief if we could get The Ox tied down to a new deal soon.
