Wenger in talks over £50m signing, player offered £200k-a-week deal

By on June 7, 2017

According to The Sun, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has held talks with Lyon president Jean-Michael Aulas over a potential £50m deal to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer.

Wenger is looking to sign a top class goal-scorer this summer as he looks to have one last go at winning the Premier League title after signing a new two-year contract extension last week.

We’ve been linked with a number of players in recent days but The Sun claim that Wenger has renewed his interest in Lacazette after missing out on the striker last summer.

Wenger and Ivan Gazidis were photographed in Nice earlier this week and the newspaper says they were in the south of France to meet-up with Lyon president Jean-Michael Aulas at his luxury villa.

Lacazette was the point of discussion with The Sun claiming that the Arsenal chiefs were trying to thrash out a potential £50m deal to sign the French international.

There is plenty of competition for his signature but the paper says Arsenal are hoping to lure him to the Emirates with the promise of a lucrative contract worth £200,000-a-week.

It looked like any hopes we had of signing Lacazette were over after he said last month that he’d only join a club in the Champions League, however, the striker has now handed us a MAJOR boost after softening that stance.

He’s quoted as saying by The Sun:

“The Champions League is important but it is not a deal-breaker for my next club.

“The Premier League is interesting and I will look for a club where there are not too many players in my position, so I will not be benched.”

Lacazette has just come off the back of another impressive campaign that saw him plunder 37 goals in all competitions so he’d certainly add a real goal threat to our side if he came to Arsenal.

Wenger clearly has a strong interest in the player as we’ve been after him for years so this summer could be the time we finally manage to lure him to north London.

I personally don’t think Lacazette is our first choice target as reports appear to suggest we’re going all-in to land Mbappe but that deal is still extremely unlikely so Lacazette will be viewed as a more realistic alternative.
