Arsenal submit bids worth £85m for attacking duo
The Telegraph are reporting that Arsenal have submitted bids totalling £85m for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar.
Arsene Wenger is facing a definitive summer at the Emirates as he needs to strengthen his squad after missing out on the top four last season for the first time in 20 years.
Attacking reinforcements appear to be a priority as we need a top class goal-scorer to lead the line up front with Olivier Giroud being hotly tipped to leave this summer.
Lacazette has emerged as our prime target in recent weeks and it looks like we’ve now formalised our interest as the Telegraph claim Arsenal have submitted an offer worth around £49m plus add ons which may bring the total past £55m.
The French international has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in recent seasons and he bagged 37 goals for Lyon last season so he’d certainly provide a real threat up front if we could get a deal agreed.
Lyon have been given mixed signals out in public recently but I think it’s safe to assume Lacazette is available at the right price this summer – so let’s just wait and see whether we can strike a deal with the Ligue 1 outfit.
And it seems Wenger is plotting a second swoop on Ligue 1 as the Telegraph claim Arsenal have also tested Monaco’s resolve by submitting an offer worth around £30m for Lemar.
The 21-year-old has just come off the back of an excellent campaign where he scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists to help Monaco land the title so it’s easy to see why he’s considered as one of the most exciting young talents in French football.
I’ve just seen a report in the Guardian that claims Monaco are determined to hang on to Lemar and will refuse to sell at any price but the Daily Mail reported earlier today that Arsenal are confident of getting a deal done.
It’s difficult to know what to believe with all these rumours flying about but I personally think every player has his price so hopefully we’ll be able to agree a fee with Monaco soon.
However, unfortunately Lemar might be lined-up as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez as the Chilean international looks increasingly unlikely to sign a new deal. Lemar plays in the same left-sided attacking position as Sanchez so it does seem likely that Wenger is eyeing him as a replacement for our star man.
