Wenger confirms interest as Arsenal prepare £45m attacker bid
According to the Mirror, Arsene Wenger has confirmed his interest in signing Thomas Lemar as Arsenal get ready to test Monaco’s resolve with an improved £45m bid.
The boss has already brought in striker Alexandre Lacazette and left-back Sead Kolasinac this summer but he’s still keen to further strengthen his squad after missing out on the top four last season.
A new attacker appears to be on the agenda and Lemar has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks with widespread reports claiming we’ve already seen two bids turned down by Monaco.
The Mirror claim Arsenal are now ready to go back in with a third improved offer worth at least £45m – which if accepted would represent the second highest ever transfer fee paid by the club.
Wenger has been speaking to the press over in Australia after arriving down under to kick off our pre-season tour and he’s admitted he’s looking to sign more players before the end of the summer.
The Frenchman confirmed Lemar is a target but insists there is nothing concrete in the pipeline just yet. Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“He’s [Lemar] a player that we follow yes, we look at.
“We are looking at more signings. But there’s nothing really concrete about any signings.”
Lemar has developed in to one of the most exciting attackers in French football in recent years and he enjoyed his most productive season to date after scoring 14 goals and setting up a further 17 last year.

The 21-year-old is a supreme talent so I’d love to see him come to Arsenal this summer but we’ll have to wait and see whether we’re able to get a deal agreed with Monaco.
