Arsenal in talks over surprise £9m midfielder deal
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal have held talks with Sampdoria over a shock deal to sell Jack Wilshere and we’re only demanding a paltry £8.8m [€10m] for the midfielder.
Wilshere’s future at Arsenal is in serious doubt as he’s got just one year left on his current contract and there has been no sign a new deal is going to be offered.
The 25-year-old was forced out on loan last summer in a bid to prove his fitness following several injury-plagued years but after an encouraging start to life at Bournemouth, Jack broke down with another fractured leg in mid-April.
The midfielder is now facing another battle to get himself fit and there is a growing feeling that Arsene Wenger is now ready to cut his losses and let Wilshere leave this summer.
Jack could now look to make a fresh start and kick-start his career in Serie A as Sky Italia journalist Di Marzio claims Sampdoria have opened talks about a deal.
That may not be a bad move for Wilshere as it would get him out of the media scrutiny here in England, however, the reporter says Arsenal are asking for just £8.8m [€10m]!
I know he’s had his injury problems and has just 12 months left on his deal but that is a ridiculously low valuation for a player of Wilshere’s ability and potential in today’s market.
If Lukaku is £90m, Walker £50m, Sigurdsson £50m and Pickford £30m then we should be able to get £25m-£30m for Wilshere. At least!
It will be a sad day to see Jack leave Arsenal as he came through the academy looking to be our next ‘Mr Arsenal’ but to see him sold off on the cheap would rub salt in to the wound.
For £8.8m, I’d honest prefer we kept hold of him for his final year and see if Wilshere could manage to stay injury free and possibly earn a new contract with Arsenal.
