Arsenal close to agreement with attacker after offering £14.5m deal
According to the Mirror, Arsenal are close to finally reaching an agreement with Mesut Ozil following a breakthrough in negotiations after the club put forward an extension worth £14.5m-per-year.
Ozil in the final 12 months of his current deal and we’ve so far been unable to agree terms over a new contract despite holding lengthy talks with his representatives.
The German playmaker signalled his intent to remain at the club after confirming earlier this week that he’s happy at Arsenal and was hopeful of agreeing a new deal soon.
The Mirror claim we’ve now held fresh positive talks with Ozil’s agent and there are signs of a breakthrough in the negotiations after we put forward an offer worth £280,000-a-week, which equates to just over £14.5m-a-year.
That offer is still short of the £350,000-a-week Ozil is reportedly looking for but the newspaper suggests the playmaker will lower his demands as he’s not seen the same level of interest from other clubs that Alexis Sanchez has attracted.
Ozil is currently in China on our pre-season tour but the Mirror say there is genuine hope between Arsenal and his agents that an agreement will be reached soon that will see the 28-year-old commit his future to the club.
It would be a huge boost to get Ozil signed-up as he’s a vital player for us but it would also allow the club to concentrate their efforts on trying to convince Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to sign new deals.

Arsene Wenger is also looking to further strengthen his squad with at least two further additions while several fringe players are expected to leave so there is still plenty left to do this summer.
