Arsenal offer key man record £300k-a-week deal
Arsenal have made another attempt to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez as the Daily Mail claim we’ve offered the attacker a new club record £300,000-a-week deal.
Sanchez is inside the final year of his current contract and we’ve been unable to reach an agreement over an extension despite holding lengthy negotiations with his representatives.
The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a number of clubs, most notably Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but Arsene Wenger insists Alexis will stay beyond August 31st.
The boss says Arsenal will refuse to cash-in on the Chilean international even if he doesn’t sign an extension as we’re prepared to run the risk of losing him for nothing next summer.
This hasn’t stopped the newspapers from speculating that Sanchez may still move before the end of the month but the Daily Mail claim Wenger is increasingly confident he’ll stay.
And it looks like the club haven’t given up hope of him signing a new deal as the newspaper says we’ve now put forward a fresh offer worth £300,000-a-week to our star attacker.
Sanchez has already rebuffed a deal that would have been worth £275,000-a-week including bonuses so it remains to be seen whether this latest offer will be enough to secure his long-term future.
I personally think Alexis won’t sign anything until after deadline day and he may see how competitive we are during the early stages of the season before making any decision.
If we start well, Alexis may be tempted to sign an extension but if we don’t show signs we’ll compete for the title then he’ll run down his contract and leave for nothing next summer.
Sanchez won’t be involved in tonight’s Premier League opener against Leicester due to an abdominal injury which could keep him out until the end of the month. Will we see Alexis in an Arsenal shirt again? Only time will tell….
