Arsenal in talks trying to thrash out deal to sign £50m attacker
According to Sky Sports via the Mirror, Arsenal remain in talks with Monaco and are trying to thrash out a deal to sign £50m-rated attacker Thomas Lemar.
Arsene Wenger is on the look out for more signings and Arsenal have been strongly linked with Lemar all summer but we’ve struggled to agree terms with Monaco after they rejected at least two formal offers.
The French champions are desperate to keep hold of the remainder of their title-winning squad after seeing a number of key players depart this summer.
The speculation linking Lemar with Arsenal has died down in recent weeks after Monaco insisted he wouldn’t be sold, however, the Mirror are citing a report from Sky Sports that says we remain in negotiations with the French outfit.
The newspaper says Monaco are demanding around £50m for the 21-year-old’s signature and Arsenal still hope to get a deal wrapped-up before the transfer window closes later this month.
Monaco completed the signing of winger Rachid Ghezzal last week and he could be viewed as a replacement for Lemar so hopefully they are just holding out for the best price and will eventually agree a deal with Arsenal.
Lemar has forged a reputation as one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe after providing 14 goals and 17 assists last season so I’d love to see him come to the Emirates over the next two weeks.
It looks like we’re going to lose Alexis Sanchez either this summer or in 12 months time so we need to be prepared for his departure and Lemar would be a superb long-term replacement for the Chilean superstar.
