Arsenal ready to open talks over deal to sign international star
According to reports in Italy via The Sun, Arsenal are favourites to sign Marcelo Brozovic and are ready to open talks with Inter Milan this week to thrash out a deal.
Arsene Wenger is slowly getting rid of his ‘deadwood’ with Carl Jenkinson and Gabriel securing moves in recent days while Lucas Perez is also reportedly close to leaving the club.
The expectation is that Wenger will dip back in to the transfer market once he’s reduced his squad size and it looks like Brozovic could be emerging as a key target.
The Sun is citing a report from SportItalia that claims Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing the midfielder and negotiations could be initiated this week over a potential deal.
We’ve been linked with Brozovic for some time and there were rumours Wenger was keen when he joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 so it seems the boss could be about to renew his interest in the Croatian international.
The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place at the San Siro and the newspaper says he’s been made surplus to requirements but it’s not made clear how much Inter are looking for.
Brozovic is a deep-lying midfield playmaker so we could be eyeing him as a potential long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla – who continues to recover from an on-going Achilles injury that’s already kept him out for 10 months.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I’ve said all summer that we desperately need a new central midfielder so hopefully Wenger manages to sign one before the end of the month.
