5 Arsenal stars called up for international duty
Four Arsenal players have been called up for international duty today ahead of the World Cup qualifiers taking place in early September.
Danny Welbeck may not be able to finish his dinner but he’s still shown some encouraging form for Arsenal during the first two games of the season and he has en excellent record for England so it’s no surprise he’s been called-up by Gareth Southgate.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at the Emirates may be in serious doubt as he continues to stall over his new contract but for now we can say he’s an Arsenal player and the 23-year-old has also been named in the 28-man England squad that was announced this afternoon.
There is no place for Theo Walcott as he continues to struggle for game-time at Arsenal while Kieran Gibbs is also nowhere near the England squad as he looks for a move away from the Emirates this summer.

Arsenal also have three representatives in the French squad that was announced today by Didier Deschamps ahead of their games against Holland and Luxembourg.
Laurent Koscielny should be fresh for his country as he’s yet to play a competitive fixture this season having served a three-game suspension – although he should be back for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.
Our club record summer signing Alexandre Lacazette has made an encouraging start to life in England after opening his goal-scoring account inside 2 minutes and he’s been rewarded with a place in the French squad.
Olivier Giroud may have lost his first team place to Lacazette but he joins his compatriot in the France squad and Deschamps is a huge Giroud fan so he should get some game-time in their qualifiers.
