Wenger confirms key Arsenal duo will return to face Liverpool
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given reporters a team news update ahead of our trip to Liverpool this weekend.
The Arsenal boss was pleased to confirm that Alexis Sanchez is fit and available for selection after recovering from an abdominal injury that’s hampered him so far this season.
Alexis was due to miss the start of the new campaign after returning late to pre-season following his participation at the Confederations Cup with Chile this summer.
But he was then sidelined by an abdominal injury that he suffered in training on the eve of our Community Shield clash with Chelsea and has subsequently missed the games with Leicester and Stoke.
However, Sanchez has trained well this week and Wenger has confirmed our star man is now available for the trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon but he hasn’t decided whether he’ll start yet.
In a double boost, Laurent Koscielny is also back in contention after serving his three-match suspension following his sending off against Everton on the final day of last season.
We could certainly do with Koscielny back in the team as our defence has been woeful during the opening two league games so it will be a huge boost to have the Frenchman available again.
This is what Wenger told reporters:
At Colney. Wenger: "Koscielny is available (suspension). Sanchez has worked very hard to be back and he is available as well."

On Sanchez starting: "He looks ready, he's not played for long time so will have to decide what I do with him. He looks in good shape." #AFC
