Arsenal launch late £25m bid to sign international defender

By on August 31, 2017

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal have tabled a late £25m bid for Jonny Evans as Arsene Wenger tries to find a replacement for Shkodran Mustafi.

The German international is being strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan just 12 months after arriving in a £35m deal from Valencia but we need to find a replacement before sanctioning any deal.

Evans emerged as a surprise candidate earlier this week when reports suggested we had entered preliminary talks with West Bromwich Albion about the former Manchester United defender.

It looks like we’ve formalised our interest as the Telegraph claim Arsenal have submitted a £25m offer that also includes the Baggies taking one of our youth players on loan.

However, the newspaper says Arsenal are already lining-up an improved offer as West Brom are holding out for a fee nearer £30m for the Northern Ireland international.

We better be quick if we want to get a deal agreed as Evans is due to fly to San Marino at 11am ahead of Norther Ireland’s World Cup qualifier so time is certainly running out.

Even if we do find an agreement with West Brom, the Telegraph claim that Man City are also right in the mix for Evans and are willing to meet their £30m asking price if they can sell Eliaquim Mangala.

The Frenchman is wanted by West Brom as a replacement for Evans, so you’d assume a deal between the two clubs would be simple, but Managala is seemingly not keen on a move to the Hawthorns.

It’s a finely poised situation but it’s one that will have to be resolved quickly as the clock is ticking so we should see more developments over the coming hours….
