Arsenal launch late move to sign 23-year-old + make enquiry for Frenchman
It’s gearing-up to be a tense deadline day for Arsenal fans with Alexis Sanchez at the heart of everything as the Chilean super-star continues to push for a move to Man City.
According to the Mirror, City are expected to launch another bid worth in excess of £60m to sign Alexis but Arsenal want £70m and have a replacement in place before agreeing to any deal.
The newspaper claims Julian Draxler is the man Arsene Wenger wants to replace Sanchez and we’ve now made a renewed attempt to get a deal agreed with Paris Saint-Germain.
The German attacker is being tipped to leave the Parc des Princes after they splashed out almost £200m on Neymar while Kylian Mbappe’s impending arrival would also see him pushed further down the pecking order.
Reports last week suggested Draxler could be available for around £35m as PSG want to recoup what they paid Wolfsburg for the 23-year-old’s signature just 8 months ago.
I think that would be a sensational piece of business if we could get £70m for Sanchez and then land Draxler for half that figure but as yet no deal had been agreed for either player.
The Mirror claim that Wenger is eyeing Thomas Lemar as an alternative to Draxler and has made another enquiry about his situation to Monaco after seeing two bids rejected earlier in the summer.
Liverpool and Barcelona are also being strongly linked with the French international and the figures being touted in the papers are well over £75m so I personally don’t see Arsenal getting involved in that battle.
If we can’t land either Draxler or Lemar then the Mirror says Riyad Mahrez is another option but if we don’t secure a replacement, then Sanchez’s proposed move to City will be blocked.
So it looks like we have to get a deal agreed for Draxler/Lemar/Mahrez or Sanchez will stay at the Emirates and see out the final year of his contract before probably joining City for nothing next summer.
For me, the best outcome for all parties would be for us to sell Sanchez for £70m and sign Draxler. Let’s hope it happens over the coming hours….
