25-year-old one of 4 set for recalls as Arsenal boss rotates for Europa League clash
According to the Mirror, Jack Wilshere is set to make his comeback on Thursday as Arsene Wenger prepares to rotate for Arsenal’s Europa League clash against Cologne.
Wilshere has been working his way back to full fitness in recent weeks after recovering from a fractured leg that he sustained while on loan at Bournemouth last season.
The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract and was close to leaving Arsenal this summer before opting to stay after being promised regular game-time in Europe and the domestic cups.
It looks like Wenger is ready to keep his promise as the Mirror claim Wilshere is expected to feature as we kick start our Europa League campaign against Cologne on Thursday night.
It will be Wilshere’s first appearance in an Arsenal shirt in 13 months and no doubt the midfielder will be looking to seize his opportunity to impress and push for a regular run in the first team.
The Mirror say Wenger will rest his key men and rotate his side in the group stages of the Europa League with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott among those also set for recalls on Thursday.
Giroud has dropped behind Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order while Walcott is barely getting a look-in this season so both players will be keen to impress against Cologne.
The newspaper says Alexis Sanchez is also set to start against the German outfit as he looks to improve his match fitness having only started in one of our five games so far this campaign.
With a huge trip to Chelsea coming up on Sunday, I actually think it would be a mistake to start Sanchez against Cologne as I’d much rather he was rested ahead of our trip to Stamford Bridge.
However, it will be great to see Wilshere back in action while I also expect he could see the likes of David Ospina, Rob Holding, Per Mertesacker, Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi feature on Thursday.
