World class attacker wants to join Arsenal after growing tired of life in Spain

By on September 11, 2017

According to a report in the Express, Karim Benzema is finally set to quit Real Madrid and the French international is keen to join Arsenal.

Benzema has long been linked with a move to Arsenal with Arsene Wenger’s interest dating way back to the strikers time with Lyon before he joined Madrid in 2009.

The 29-year-old has always ended up staying at the Bernabeu and he’s developed a reputation as one of the best strikers in the world over the past eight years having provided 182 goals and 104 assists in his 371 appearances.

However, the Frenchman’s place is under increasing pressure as he only managed to score 11 La Liga goals last season and is yet to register during Madrid’s opening three La Liga games this term.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have endured a poor start to the season and it’s led to calls for Benzema to be dropped but he’s set for a spell on the sidelines anyway after suffering a hamstring injury at the weekend.

It looks like Benzema has become frustrated with life in Spain as the Express are citing a report from Don Balon that claims the striker is ready to quit Madrid and wants to join Arsenal.

It’s not made clear in the report whether Benzema wants the move in January or will wait until next summer but I’m not sure it will matter too much as I don’t see Wenger renewing his interest in the player.

We splashed out around £50m on Alexandre Lacazette in the summer and with Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud also vying for places up front, I don’t really see a need for us to spend big on Benzema.

The boss has other areas of the squad to worry about, such as central midfield, centre-back and replacements for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, so I highly doubt another striker is on his list of priorities right now.

Sorry Karim, but that ship has sailed I’m afraid…
