Key Arsenal man set to miss several weeks in fresh injury blow
According to the Mirror, Arsenal fear Danny Welbeck has torn his groin muscle during Sunday’s draw at Chelsea and is now facing several weeks on the sidelines.
Welbeck started at Stamford Bridge yesterday but limped off to be replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 73rd minute after going down clutching his groin following a routine clash.
Arsene Wenger confirmed in his post-match interview that Danny had suffered a serious-looking groin injury but wouldn’t speculate over how long the forward would be out for.
The boss is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“He has a groin problem. I don’t know how severe it is but it looks like a ‘good’ groin problem, not an easy one,”
The Mirror now have an update and say that Welbeck has been sent for scans to determine the full extent of the injury but the club believe he has torn his groin muscle.
If those fears are confirmed when the scan results come back, then the newspaper says Welbeck will be ruled out for ‘several weeks’.
The news will come as a huge blow as the 26-year-old has been showing some excellent early-season form and he was hoping to put his injury woes behind him.
Welbeck saw his first season at the club hampered by a knee injury and he missed eight months last year due to another knee cartilage problem so it will be a devastating blow if he’s now ruled out for any significant period with this groin injury.
The England international showed his worth with a disciplined and hard working display at Stamford Bridge yesterday so hopefully we get some positive news when the scan results come back.
