Arsenal star ruled out for at least another 2 weeks after suffering injury setback
According to Football London, Arsenal star Calum Chambers has been ruled out for at least another two weeks after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hip injury.
After returning back late to pre-season following his exploits with England at the U21 European Championships in the summer, Chambers has endured a frustrating campaign so far.
His hip problem kept him on the sidelines until mid-September when he finally made his first appearance of the season during our League Cup win over Doncaster Rovers.
However, the 22-year-old only lasted 45 minutes as he aggravated the injury during the first half and Arsene Wenger initially ruled Chambers out for around two weeks.
There were hopes he could be back in the squad for last weekend’s clash with Watford or be in contention for the Europa League trip to Red Star Belgrade on Thursday night.
However, Football London claim that Chambers is still not back in training after suffering a setback in his recovery and is expected to be out for at least another two weeks.
As long as he doesn’t suffer any further setbacks then the centre-back could make his return against Belgrade on November 2nd but the trip to Manchester City on the 5th is probably a more realistic option.
Chambers isn’t a first team regular at Arsenal but his injury problems have come at a bad time with Shkodran Mustafi out for up to six weeks with a thigh injury.
Laurent Koscielny has also been struggling with an on-going Achilles problem in recent weeks and limped off with cramp in his calf at Watford on Saturday night – although he’s expected to be fit to face Everton this weekend.
Had Chambers been fit, he would almost certainly have started in our Europa League clash tomorrow night but with him, Koscielny and Mustafi all unavailable, Wenger has limited options at the back.
