Arsenal suffer double injury concern ahead of Tottenham clash
As per the Evening Standard, Arsenal have a double injury concern ahead of Saturday’s clash with Tottenham after Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey were sent home from international duty.
Ramsey played the full ninety minutes during Wales’s 2-0 defeat to France in Paris on Friday night and the Arsenal midfielder didn’t show any sign of being injured during the game.
However, the Welsh FA have confirmed Ramsey has been ruled out of Tuesday’s friendly with Panama and was replaced by Scunthorpe midfielder Andrew Crofts after being released from the squad.
Ramsey is now set to return to Arsenal to be further assessed by the medical team but the Evening Standard don’t provide any details on what injury he’s carrying or precisely why he was withdrawn from the Wales squad.
Arsene Wenger will be praying it’s nothing serious and Rambo’s withdrawal is just precautionary as the last thing we need is suffering an injury in central midfield ahead of the Tottenham game.
If Ramsey was ruled out, then Wenger may need to turn to Francis Coquelin or Mohamed Elneny to partner Granit Xhaka on Saturday as it seems he now sees Jack Wilshere as an attacking midfielder rather than someone who plays deeper.
We also have a doubt over Giroud as the striker was sent home from France duty after picking up a thigh injury during the win over Wales on Friday.
It turns out Giroud actually felt the injury during the warm-up but took anti-inflammatories to play the game and was substituted shortly after making it 2-0 in the 71st minute.
I’m sure Wenger won’t be impressed that his striker chose to play a friendly despite carrying an injury and it looks like Olivier made the problem worse as he’s now back in London after being ruled out of France’s match with Germany tomorrow night.
Giroud will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s clash with Spurs and although he wouldn’t have started the game he’d be a useful weapon to have on the bench so hopefully he’s passed fit to feature in the NLD.
