Team News: Arsenal could be without 3 key men for Man Utd showdown
Arsenal could be without three key players for Saturday’s huge Premier League showdown with Manchester United at the Emirates.
Wednesday night’s 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Town came at a cost as Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez both picked up knocks during the game.
Lacazette opened the scoring in midweek with a fine finish in the third minute but was substituted at half-time after suffering a groin injury during the first half.
Arsene Wenger confirmed the news after the game and said the French international was ‘certainly’ out of the United game this weekend, which is a huge blow.
The 26-year-old has settled well in north London following his £52m move from Lyon in the summer having scored 7 goals in 12 starts but it looks like we’ll have to make-do without him tomorrow.
Sanchez was also on the scoresheet on Wednesday night as he lashed home our third goal in the 69th minute before being replaced by Danny Welbeck just a few minutes later.
Many fans assumed the Chilean international was just being rested ahead of the United game but Wenger revealed afterwards that Alexis had actually picked up a hamstring injury.
Thankfully the boss said it was only a minor issue and he was confident Sanchez would recover in time to start against United on Saturday evening but we’ll have to wait and see if he’s passed fit.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Lacazette has a groin problem and will be out certainly for Saturday’s game,”
“Sanchez had a little hamstring problem – that’s why I took him off but I think he will be alright.
“Look, we have offensive weapons, you know. We have Danny Welbeck, we have Giroud, we have Jack Wilshere who all came on. They are all offensive players.
“I will see what I do for Saturday but ideally you wanted him (Lacazette) there.”
Obviously it would be a HUGE blow if Sanchez was to join Lacazette on the sidelines as it would be a nightmare to be without two of our first choice front three for such a big game.
If both attackers are out it means we’ll be without three key man as Santi Cazorla is still unavailable after suffering a setback in his recovery from an Achilles injury that’s already kept him out for over a year.
