Arsenal table audacious £35m bid for world class striker – report

By on December 13, 2017

According to reports in Spain via the Express, Arsenal have tabled an audacious £35m bid to sign Karim Benzema but the offer hasn’t been well received by Real Madrid.

Benzema has long been linked with a move to Arsenal with Arsene Wenger’s interest dating way back to the strikers time with Lyon before he joined Madrid in 2009.

The French international has been touted as an Arsenal target during practically every transfer window in recent years and it looks like the rumour mill has already started ahead of January.

Benzema has endured a difficult 18 months as he only managed to score 11 league goals last season and has only got 2 in his 11 La Liga games so far this campaign.

His poor form has lead to speculation Madrid are ready to cash-in and it looks like Arsenal are hoping to offer him a fresh start as the Express are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims we’ve now tabled an offer for the striker.

However, the Spanish outlet says Madrid have been left ‘amused’ by our bid as we’ve supposedly made it clear we won’t go above £35m for the 29-year-old hitman.

Despite his poor form, that is a low-ball offer for a player of Benzema’s quality so no wonder Madrid have laughed it off – particularly as he has an £886m release clause in his contract.

I’m not suggesting Benzema is worth £886m but you’d expect to pay a lot more than £35m for a striker who has that sort of release fee and a player who’s scored almost 200 goals for Madrid.

Benzema is a player I’ve always wanted to see in an Arsenal shirt as he’s a world class No.9 who I think would have been a huge success here at the Emirates Stadium.

However, I personally think that ship has sailed and I’d be hugely surprised if there was anything behind these latest reports as Arsene Wenger already splashed out £50m on Alexandre Lacazette so why would he be looking at Benzema?
