Arsenal open talks to sign Spanish midfielder after player demands move
According to a report in the Express, Arsenal are in talks with the representatives of Dani Ceballos after the midfielder asked to leave Real Madrid this winter.
Ceballos starred at the 2017 Under-21 European Championships and snubbed a number of top clubs to join Madrid in a £16m deal from Real Betis last summer.
However, the 21-year-old has struggled to establish himself at the Bernabeu having started just two games so far this season and is lucky to even get off the bench for Zinadine Zidane’s side.
With a World Cup on the horizon, it looks like Ceballos is already getting itchy feet as the Express claim he’s told Real Madrid chiefs he wants to leave this winter in order to secure regular first team football.
The youngster has also found out it was Madrid president Florentino Perez and not Zidane who wanted to sign him so it seems he’s not feeling the love from the Madrid manager.
It looks like a move to England could be on the cards as the newspaper cites a report from Diario Gol that claims Ceballos’s agents have already held talks with Arsenal over a potential move to North London.
Mesut Ozil is yet to sign a new deal so Arsene Wenger could be eyeing Ceballos as a potential replacement, however, the report says we’ll face competition from Liverpool as they’ve also apparently held talks over a deal.
We’ll also need to persuade Perez to let Ceballos go as Diario Gol claim the Madrid chief is adamant the Spanish midfielder is a future star so will only let him leave on a short-term loan in January.
That’s not ideal for Arsenal as we need a long-term replacement for Ozil so I personally don’t see Wenger pursuing any deal for Ceballos that isn’t on a permanent basis.
