[Photos] 33-year-old may get recall after training with Arsenal ahead of Palace trip
The Arsenal squad have been undertaking their final preparations ahead of our trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Thursday night.
Arsene Wenger put his squad through their paces at London Colney this afternoon and Per Mertesacker was among the players hoping to impress.
The 33-year-old hasn’t featured in recent weeks but with Nacho Monreal ruled out with an ankle injury which he sustained against Liverpool, Mertesacker could be in Wenger’s thoughts tomorrow.
Monreal has been playing in the middle of a back four in recent games but Wenger may opt to revert to a back three/five after shipping three goals against Liverpool last time out.
That could see Shkodran Mustafi and Mertesacker recalled to the starting eleven alongside Laurent Koscielny against Palace tomorrow night.
Jack Wilshere was also out on the training pitches today as he looks to make another Premier League start in place of the injured Aaron Ramsey – who’s still out with a hamstring injury.
There was no Olivier Giroud in training today as he’s been ruled out until the middle of January with a hamstring injury so Alexandre Lacazette will no doubt lead the line up front tomorrow.
