26-year-old attacker desperate to join Arsenal over Liverpool – report
According to the Express, Riyad Mahrez has held talks with Liverpool over a move to Anfield but he’d rather join Arsenal as he wants to live in London.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s looking to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez with the two Manchester clubs battling it out over his signature this month.
The likes of Thomas Lemar and Malcom have been linked with a move to the Emirates recently but once again Mahrez’s name has cropped up in some circles of the media.
We’ve been constantly linked with the 26-year-old ever since he fired Leicester City to the title in 2016 and the Mirror reported last month that Arsenal chiefs are ready to renew their interest this month.
Liverpool have also been linked with the Algerian international and the Express claim Mahrez has held talks with Anfield chiefs about a possible move to Merseyside.
However, the newspaper suggests that Mahrez would much prefer to join Arsenal if a deal can be done as he’s bought a house in London and is desperate to live in the capital.
Leicester are keen to keep hold of him but it’s highly unlikely they will be able to resist if we come in with a sizeable offer this month as Mahrez has made it clear in the past he wants to go.
The problem is, how much does Wenger really want him? He’s a confirmed fan but has never really gone all-out to land the player so I think Mahrez remains a back-up option for us.
For me, Lemar and Malcom are both higher-up on Wenger’s wish-list so we’ll probably only make a move for him during the closing stages of the window if we can’t land other targets.
