Team news: Wenger offers update on Wilshere, Ozil, Ramsey & more
Arsene Wenger has provided a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Bournemouth this weekend including the latest on a number of first team players.
Jack Wilshere looked to be facing another spell on the sidelined after limping out of our Carabao Cup semi final first leg draw at Chelsea on Wednesday night with an ankle injury.
Wenger confirmed after the match that Wilshere had sprained his ankle but thankfully scans have shown only minor damage and he could yet be passed fit for the trip to Dean Court on Sunday.
The boss also revealed that Aaron Ramsey is back in contention this weekend after recovering from a hamstring injury that’s kept him on the sidelines for the last month.
Mesut Ozil missed the League Cup stalemate at Stamford Bridge in midweek due to a minor knee issue and the German international is facing a late fitness test to see if he’ll be able to return on Sunday.
Ozil is currently rated as ’50-50′ to be passed fit but unfortunately all our other injured players remain out of the Premier League clash at Bournemouth meaning we have problems in defence.
Thankfully Laurent Koscielny, Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal should all be back in contention for the Crystal Palace game next weekend but Olivier Giroud remains two weeks away from returning from a hamstring injury.
Wenger told the Mirror:
“Jack is injured but we had very good news yesterday [Thursday], I saw him walking normally, the scan was good, he is not yet out of the game on Sunday.
“Ramsey is back in the squad. Ozil will have a test tomorrow. That is 50-50. All the other players will still be out.”
“[Laurent] Koscielny next week, [Sead] Kolasinac next week. He has a little chance to be available. [Nacho] Monreal, earliest next week as well. Giroud 2 weeks”
It’s a huge relief to hear Jack’s injury isn’t serious and Ramsey’s return will be a big boost this weekend as we’ve missed his energy in the middle of the park.
