Done Deal: Mkhitaryan joins Arsenal as Sanchez completes switch to Man Utd
The saga is finally over as Arsenal confirmed this evening that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has joined the club in a swap deal that sees Alexis Sanchez complete his move to Man Utd.
We’ve been in negotiations with Mkhitaryan’s camp for the past week after Arsene Wenger insisted he was included in any deal that involved Alexis joining United.
Sanchez didn’t take long to agree terms with the Red Devils as they threw crazy money at him but we took a lot longer to find an agreement with Mkhitaryan as his agent, Mino Raiola, proved to be a difficult character to deal with.
There was finally a breakthrough in talks on Friday night and Mkhitaryan was soon spotted in London where he undertook his medical on Sunday afternoon.
Alexis also travelled to Manchester to have his medical and both players were spotted in Liverpool at the immigration office this morning where they sorted their work permits.
It’s now been confirmed on Arsenal.com that Mkhitaryan has joined the club on a three-and-a-half year contract and the playmaker says he’s delighted to have finally joined the club.
“I’m very happy that we could finish this deal and I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream come true because I’ve always dreamed of playing for Arsenal. Now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history.”
Obviously it’s disappointing to lose Sanchez but I actually think we’ve done extremely well to get Mkhitaryan in exchange. Sanchez’s value to us would have been £0 on February 1st so to get a £35m-£40m player in exchange who’s now on a long-term deal is great business.
