29-year-old to start vs Tottenham after Arsenal suffer huge injury blow
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal number 2 David Ospina is set to start versus Tottenham this weekend as Petr Cech is expected to be ruled out with a calf injury.
Cech was forced off midway through the second half during our 5-1 demolition of Everton at the weekend shortly after missing out on claiming his 200th Premier League clean sheet.
It was initially thought that the 35-year-old had suffered a dead leg following an innocuous clash while catching a high ball and Arsene Wenger was hopeful his stopper would make a swift recovery.
However, the Telegraph claim Cech has suffered a calf problem that is worse than first thought and the Czech legend isn’t expected to recover in time for Saturday’s trip to Wembley.
The news is a huge blow as although Cech’s form has dropped lately and his gaff against Swansea cost us dearly, he’s still our number one who’s so-far started every league game this season.
Despite his poor form, Cech is still our best keeper but it looks like he’s set to miss out against Tottenham which means Ospina is now in-line to make his first Premier League start of the season this weekend.
I’ve made no secret that I’m not a fan of Ospina and I’m dreading the 29-year-old being in goal against Spurs so let’s pray Cech manages to make a miraculous recovery over the next few days.
I have zero confidence we’ll keep a clean sheet with the Colombian midget between the sticks so let’s hope our new attack is on form as we’ll need to score a few goals if we’re to come away with all three points on Saturday.
But let’s be honest, neither of our keepers are good enough anymore so we better bring in a new No.1 in the summer.
