Arsenal ready to launch bid to sign £25m Serie A star
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are ready to launch a move to sign £25m-rated Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani ahead of a possible summer switch to the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger revamped his attack in January but he’s expected to turn his attention to the opposite end of the pitch this summer with a new defender high on the agenda.
Rugani has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and the Italian international has once again emerged as a prime target with various reports circulating in recent weeks that Wenger is eyeing the Juve centre-back.
It looks like we’re ready to make our interest official as the Mirror is citing a report from The Sun that claims Arsenal are set to launch a move to sign Rugani ahead of the summer.
The newspaper suggests that the 23-year-old is valued at around £25m and we’re hoping to lure him to the Emirates as he’s struggling to hold down a first team place in Turin.
Rugani played during the win over Torino at the weekend but that was his first start in Serie A since November so the youngster could be open to a fresh start here in the Premier League in search of regular football.
The players agent, Davide Torchia, recently confirmed they had held talks with Arsenal in the past and suggested the defender would have no problem adapting to life in England if he was to move to the Premier League.
Torchia is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Rugani it’s an international player. He could play in any league. So also in UK. He’s young. Elegant in the way of playing. I know that various top European top club follow him.
“Some are English. Arsenal? In the past, some seasons ago, we spoke with them. At the moment there are no official contact with them.”
Rugani is considered as one of the best young defenders in Serie A so he would be an exciting addition to the squad and an excellent long-term replacement for Per Mertesacker if we could get a deal agreed.
