Player keen on move after Arsenal open talks to sign Brazilian star
According to UOL eSporte, Arsenal have opened talks with Maycon’s representatives and the Corinthians midfielder wants to move to north London this summer.
Maycon joined Corinthians at the age of 12 and starred for their youth teams before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2016 when he was just 18.
The 20-year-old was sent out on loan to Ponte Preta where he made 40 appearances last year and it seems his potential has caught the attention of Arsenal scouts.
Speculation linked us with a move for the midfielder during the January transfer window when Maycon’s agent confirmed our interest in signing the Brazilian U20 international.
It looks like we’ve now stepped-up our pursuit as Brazilian outlet UOL eSporte are reporting that Arsenal chiefs have entered in to talks with Maycon’s representatives about a potential move at the end of the season.
The newspaper says Shakhtar Donetsk and Napoli have also registered their interest but the youngster feels a move to Arsenal would be best at this stage of his career.
A growing number of fans feel Arsene Wenger should leave this summer but no matter who’s in charge, we need to add to our midfield options as it’s a weakness in the squad.
Jack Wilshere looks set to leave after failing to sign a new deal, Granit Xhaka has been disappointing this season and Aaron Ramsey has just one year left on his contract so midfield reinforcements are needed.
Maycon looks to have a bright future ahead of him but for me he’s ‘one for the future’ so if we do end up signing the South American starlet, then I hope we also have more established targets lined-up, too.
