Arsenal could sign long-term target in £35m deal as defender considers move
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal could sign long-term target Daniele Rugani for £35m this summer as the defender contemplates a move away from Juventus.
Whoever replaces Arsene Wenger as manager at the end of the season is going to have to sort our defence out as we’ve conceded 46 goals in the Premier League alone so far this season.
Shkodran Mustafi has been hugely inconsistent since arriving from Valencia and most would agree an upgrade is needed this summer while Laurent Koscielny’s playing time is being restricted due to an on-going Achilles issue so a centre-back is needed.
Rugani has been linked with a move to the Emirates for some time and TeamTalk reported earlier this month that Arsenal were going to renew their interest in the Italian international this summer.
We may have more luck striking a deal this time around as CalcioMercato are now reporting that Rugani is considering a move away from Turin after failing to establish himself at the Serie A giants.
The 23-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at Juventus this season as Medhi Benatia and Giorgio Chiellini are Max Allegri’s first choice pairing.
It seems Rugani is now growing frustrated with his bit-part role as the Italian publication says he’ll hold talks with Juve this summer as he considers a fresh start away from the Old Lady.
Juve know full well that Rugani has the potential to become one of the best centre-backs in Europe so CalcioMercato claim they’ll demand £35m for his signature this summer if he decides to leave.
That’s a huge investment for a young defender but that’s the sort of transfer fee we’re going to have to pay if we want to sign quality players and Rugani has a big future ahead of him so I think he’d be a great signing.
We’ll have to wait to see what decision he makes at the end of the season but I hope the young Italian defender looks for a fresh start here in north London.
