4-2-3-1: AMN & Mustafi start, Xhaka out: My Arsenal XI to face Huddersfield
It’s going to be an emotional day as Arsene Wenger takes charge of his final game when Arsenal take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smiths Stadium on Sunday. Here is the team I would like to see the boss select….
Goalkeeper: Cech
We need a new goalkeeper this summer – that much is clear – but Cech has been a great servant and was excellent against Leicester in midweek so I’d like to see him start our final game.
Defence: Bellerin, Chambers, Mustafi, Monreal
Mavropanos is suspended after being sent off in midweek so unfortunately we won’t get to see him on Sunday. Koscielny is obviously out so I’d bring Mustafi in for some experience at the back.
I think Chambers has been in solid form lately and he was rested against Leicester so I’d pick him ahead of Holding while Bellerin and Monreal should come in to the full-back positions after being rested in midweek.
Maitland-Niles put in another solid performance at right-back but I’d like to see him move in to his more natural midfield position.
Midfield: Maitland-Niles, Wilshere, Ramsey
Maitland-Niles deserves a chance in midfield so I’d give Xhaka a rest with Wilshere being recalled after missing the trip to the King Power on Wednesday to attend the birth of his baby.
Ramsey wasn’t at his best against Leicester but it was tough going with ten men to be fair. With the future’s of both Rambo and Wilshere in serious doubt, it will be nice to get a chance to say goodbye in case they leave this summer.
Wenger has already said there is no chance Cazorla will feature in our final game while the match will also come too soon for Elneny.
Attack: Mkhitaryan, Lacazette, Aubameyang
Ozil has been ruled out again with an apparent back injury but Mkhitaryan has really stepped up during his absence in recent games so he should keep his place. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.
Aubameyang continued his excellent form in front of goal with another poachers finish against Leicester so hopefully he gets another chance to get on the score-sheet on Sunday.
Lacazette should certainly be recalled as he was rested in midweek and I’d like to see him, Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan in a front three again as they were deadly against Burnley.
Welbeck, Iwobi, Nelson and Nketiah can all be options from the bench.
Whatever line-up Wenger chooses, I just hope the players give their all for the boss one last time to send him off on a high note.
This is the team I hope we see:
