Arsenal boss offers update on Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has offered an update on Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation and insists he wants the midfielder to stay at the club as he’s an important part of his plans.
Ramsey has been at Arsenal since joining the club from Cardiff in 2008 and he’s been an integral part of the starting eleven under Arsene Wenger for the past six seasons.
The 27-year-old midfielder has scored 58 goals in his 327 appearances for the club, including goals in two FA Cup finals, so it’s no wonder fans have been having sleepless nights about his contract situation.
Ramsey has just one year left on his current deal and he’s no closer to penning an extension despite his representatives holding talks with club officials in recent months.
There have been reports suggesting that Arsenal will cash-in if Ramsey doesn’t commit his future to the club this summer as we don’t want to risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.
Emery is hoping it won’t come to that as the new Gunners boss has revealed that he’s told Ivan Gazidis and co. that the Welsh international is an important part of his plans and he’s desperate to work with him this coming season.
Emery told Arsenal.com:
on Aaron Ramsey…
I’m very happy with him. For me, every day, every training session, he has the ambition I want. He’s working with a quality, the type of ability that I want. I want to work with him.on why Ramsey hasn’t signed a new deal…
This is one question for the player and for the club. In my opinion, I’ve said to Ivan, Raul and Sven that I think he’s an important player for me.
Ramsey has suggested several times in the past that he’s keen to test himself abroad and if he wants to fulfill that ambition, then he may feel now is the best chance he’ll get.
He’ll turn 28 in December so is in his peak years and the midfielder could command huge money at some of Europe’s biggest clubs so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens.
Obviously I pray Ramsey decides to stay at Arsenal and lead us in to the new era under Emery but until that contract is signed, there’s a real chance we may see him leave this summer.
