Arsenal table big-money bid to sign 27-year-old international attacker – reports
According to reports in Spain via TeamTalk, Arsenal boss Unai Emery has offered £35m to sign Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez but Julen Lopetegui is keen to keep hold of the attacker.
Emery has admitted he’s on the market for one more signing if the right opportunity comes up and the Spanish coach is reportedly in the market for another winger as he looks to strengthen his options in attack.
So far, Emery’s five signings have all been focussed on the defence as we’ve signed a new goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back and two holding midfielders since he replaced Arsene Wenger as manager in June.
I’ve said for several months that we need to add some width to the squad having lost Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott in January and it looks like Arsenal chiefs are eyeing a swoop for Vazquez.
Don Balon, via TeamTalk, claim Emery has identified the 27-year-old as a prime target after failing to land Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Arsenal have now offered to pay £35m to sign Vazquez this summer.
However, the Spanish publication says new Madrid boss Lopetegui is desperate to hang on to the winger and will do his best to veto any proposed deal with Arsenal.
Madrid president Florentino Perez will make the final decision so he could still accept Arsenal’s offer and sell Vazquez as he may feel it’s a decent price for a player that’s struggled to hold down a first team place.
Vazquez came through the youth ranks at the Bernabeu but only managed to make his first team debut in 2015 aged 24 and he started just 16 games last season under Zinedine Zidane.
However, Lopetegui is a big fan and he named him in the Spanish World Cup squad before he was sensationally sacked for accepting the Madrid job on the eve of their first game.
I think Vazquez would be a great signing as he can play on either wing and has bags of potential so I’d love to see our £35m offer accepted but I think it might prove to be difficult given Lopetegui’s desire to keep him and the fact they’ve sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

If we can’t sign Vazquez then it’s important we move on to another target quickly as we desperately need to sign a winger before the window shuts on August 9th. If we can, then I think we’d have had a great summer.
