[Photos] Arsenal boost as key man resumes full training ahead of Chelsea clash
Arsenal appear to have been handed a timely boost ahead of this weekend’s trip to Chelsea as Nacho Monreal has been snapped back in full training today.
Monreal failed to feature in any of our pre-season games after picking up a knee injury while away with the Spanish squad at this summers World Cup finals.
The 32-year-old returned to light training last week but wasn’t deemed fit enough to be in the squad for our opening Premier League defeat at home to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
However, Monreal has now been given the green light to resume full training with the rest of the squad at London Colney today and could therefore be back in contention to face Chelsea on Saturday.
Nacho will no doubt be assessed over the coming days but his availability would come as a major boost as Sead Kolasinac has been ruled out for two months with a knee injury while Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also a major doubt for this weekend’s game.
The 20-year-old started at left-back against City but limped off with a knee problem and is almost certain to miss out on Saturday so fingers crossed Monreal will be passed fit otherwise we’ll have a major issue at left-back.
Right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner would probably be drafted in as he was against City but there is no doubt it would be a huge boost if Monreal was fit to face the Blues as we desperately need a positive result at the Bridge.
