[Player Ratings] Arsenal 3-1 Brentford: Welbeck stars but Leno fails to impress
Danny Welbeck and Alexandre Lacazette were on target as Arsenal eased in to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 victory over Brentford.
Welbeck headed us in front early on before finishing off a superb team move to make it 2-0 shortly before half time. Brentford pulled one back thanks to a lovely free-kick in the 58th minute but Lacazette came off the bench to wrap things up late on.
These are my ratings:
Leno 5.5/10 | Early scare after fluffing a back-pass that almost led to an own goal but showed good speed to get off his line and played the initial pass that led to our second goal. However, could have got closer to the free-kick goal as he reacted very late. Certainly didn’t take his chance to shine.
Lichtsteiner 6/10 | Keen to get forward but his final ball was lacking at times. Booked early on during a typically aggressive display.
Holding 6.5/10 | Made some important challenges as Brentford pushed for an equaliser and was solid in the air.
Mustafi 6/10 | Lucky to get away with a mistake in the first half and was nervy at times.
Monreal 6.5/10 | Pin-point cross/pass set-up Welbeck for our second goal but had a few problems at the back down his flank.
Elneny 6/10 | Another very average display from Elneny. He just doesn’t do enough to command a regular first team place.
Guendouzi 7/10 | Great corner to assist Welbeck’s opener and dictated the game at times with some neat passing but foolish foul to give away which led to their goal.
Mkhitaryan 6/10 | Was involved in our second goal but not his best performance by any stretch. Couldn’t influence the game enough.
Smith Rowe 6.5/10 | Lively display from the teenager, especially in the first half. Showed no fear and plenty of quality. Will be proud of his full debut.
Iwobi 7/10 | Played his part in the second goal and produced another encouraging display. Full of running and worked hard throughout.
Welbeck 8/10 | Opened the scoring with a fine early header and finished off a superb move to make it 2-0. Fine start to the season continues and he showed once again why he’s a very useful player to have around.
