Arsenal confirm injury boost but first team man ruled out for at least 3 weeks
Arsenal have confirmed some mixed injury news ahead of our Europa League group stage clash with Qarabag on Thursday night.
The squad flew out to Azerbaijan earlier today in preparation for our second group game tomorrow and Emile Smith Rowe could feature after the club confirmed on Arsenal.com the midfielder has recovered from a hip injury.
Smith Rowe sustained the injury during our Carabao Cup win over Brentford last week but he’s made a swift recovery. It was unclear from the photos published this morning whether the 18-year-old was on the flight but hopefully he was as the Qarabag game is another good opportunity for Smith Rowe to get some first team action under his belt.
However, we’ve been dealt a blow as Arsenal have also revealed that Petr Cech has been ruled out for at least three weeks after being forced off with a hamstring injury during the win over Watford at the weekend.
The injury is unfortunate as Cech was in great form in recent games but the silver lining means Bernd Leno should now get a run in the first team so let’s see what our summer signing if made of.
Otherwise, the injury news is unchanged. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is still expected to return in early October after making a swift recovery from a fractured leg that he sustained on the opening weekend of the season while Dinos Mavropanos will be out until the end of the month with a groin problem.
Laurent Koscielny is continuing to work outside as he steps-up his recovery from an Achilles injury that he suffered last season but the centre-back won’t be back in full training until some point in November.
Here is the team news update from Arsenal.com:
