[Pictures] Huge injury boost for Emery as Arsenal star returns to first team training

Arsenal have been handed a major boost as Laurent Koscielny has stepped-up his recovery from an Achilles injury after taking part in some first team training today.

Koscielny hasn’t featured for the club since rupturing his Achilles tendon during the second leg of our Europa League semi final defeat to Atletico Madrid during the closing stages of last season.

The 33-year-old has progressed well during his rehabilitation over the past six months and began working with the ball again during individual training at London Colney in September.

The Frenchman has now taken a huge step towards his recovery after taking part in some aspects of first team training with the rest of the squad this afternoon.

The centre-back is still some weeks away from being available for selection as he’s not expected back until some time in November but it’s great to see Kos back smiling and playing football again with his Arsenal team mates.

His return will come as a huge boost and I think Koscielny could form an excellent partnership with Sokratis once he’s back to full fitness. Our defence has improved in recent weeks but Shkodran Mustafi remains a weak link so hopefully Koscielny’s return will tighten things up further at the back.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles was also in full training today as he looks to make his comeback from a fractured leg that’s kept him out since the defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.
