Team news: Arsenal star to miss Sporting game + Emery reveals Koscielny comeback date
Nacho Monreal has been ruled out of Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon while Unai Emery has also revealed details on when we should expect to see Laurent Koscielny playing again.
Monreal hasn’t featured for Arsenal since suffering a hamstring injury before the Leicester City game last month and the clubs official team news update suggested that he may feature against Sporting after returning to light training.
As part of the update on Arsenal.com from earlier today, the club also revealed that Sokratis would be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s game after returning to full training following a niggling ankle injury.
Mohamed Elneny will miss the Europa League clash on Thursday due to an on-going thigh injury that’s kept him out of the last two games but the Egyptian international is expected to return to full training next week.
Arsenal also confirmed that Laurent Koscielny is continuing to integrate himself in to full training following a serious Achilles injury that’s kept him out since the back end of last season while Dinos Mavropanos is also continuing his rehabilitation from a groin injury.
The update on Arsenal.com said:
Nacho Monreal
Right hamstring. Being assessed ahead of Sporting (h) on Thursday, November 8.Sokratis
Right ankle. Being assessed ahead of Sporting (h) on Thursday, November 8.Mo Elneny
Right thigh. Expected to return to full training in one week.Laurent Koscielny
Right Achilles tendon repair. Currently being integrated back into full training.Dinos Mavropanos
Groin injury. Expected to return to full training in November.
However, following this, Emery held his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he provided a further update on Monreal after confirming the Spaniard won’t be considered for selection against Sporting as they want to be cautious with his injury.
The boss also gave an insight in to Koscielny’s recovery after saying the defender is getting better every day and suggested the Frenchman could be introduced back in to the first team after the upcoming international break.
Emery is quoted as saying by Football London:
On team news
At the moment we continue to have injuries for Mavropanos and Koscielny, he is getting better training with us. Nacho [Monreal] we are taking precaution with him because we don’t want to repeat the same injury. He is starting to train but not doing all with us. He isn’t in the group for tomorrow.
On Laurent Koscielny – How long until a return
The most important thing is his feeling every day. He can feel better each training with us. He is closer to being with us in competition games. But at the moment we are calm, we are happy with him and he is feeling well.
I think he is getting better every day. We are going to think after the international break about how we are going to start with him to play games.
So it looks like Koscielny could be back later this month and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him feature during our Europa League clash with Vorskla on November 29th – assuming we secure qualification with a win tonight.
