‘Closest Thing To Henry’ – Pundit Compares Current Arsenal Star To Gunners Legend

Martin Keown has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the closest thing he’s seen to Thierry Henry but is still demanding more from the Arsenal striker.

Aubameyang has been one of the most prolific hitmen in European football in recent seasons and has enjoyed an excellent start to his career in north London since joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund back in January.

The pacey forward scored 12 goals in his 13 appearances during the second half of last season and has 9 in 15 games so far this campaign despite spending much of his time playing out on the left wing to accommodate Alexandre Lacazette through the middle.

The Gabon international was given a chance up front last night as he replaced Danny Welbeck in the 30th minute after he was stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle during Arsenal’s Europa League draw with Sporting Lisbon.

Aubameyang wasn’t at his best as he struggled to influence things during the stalemate with his main contribution leading to Jeremy Mathieu being sent off after the Sporting defender hauled him down as he raced clear in the 90th minute.

Keown has now called on Aubameyang to show more hunger and to push himself as the former Arsenal centre-back feels he is a ‘special talent’ who’s the closest thing to Thierry Henry since the great man left the club.

You can hear what Keown said after the game while speaking as a pundit on BT Sport:

It’s fair to say Aubameyang shares a lot of characteristics with Henry as they are a similar build, have pace to burn and are excellent goal-scorers but the former Dortmund star obviously still has a long way to go before he can match what Titi achieved at Arsenal!

Unfortunately for Aubameyang, I don’t think we’re going to see the best of him as Lacazette seems to suit being our main striker more meaning Auba is forced out to the wing whenever both players are selected.
