Referees confirmed for Arsenal’s huge games against Tottenham and Man Utd
The referees have been announced for Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League games with Tottenham and Manchester United.
We take on Vorskla in the Europa League on Thursday evening but with qualification to the knockout stages confirmed, thoughts have already turned to Sunday’s huge North London Derby.
Unai Emery will get his first taste of an NLD when we welcome Tottenham to the Emirates this weekend but unfortunately the Premier League have confirmed Mike Dean will be the man in charge.
Most Arsenal fans will know this particular referee well as he has a long history of controversy when officiating Arsenal matches and he had a number of run-ins with Arsene Wenger after making some blatant errors while referring our games.
Dean famously appeared to celebrate when Tottenham once scored against us some years ago while he was also seen jumping for joy when Spurs scored against Aston Villa so it’s safe to say his appointment on Sunday hasn’t gone down well among the fans.
Check out a video of Dean’s celebrations:

That fact Dean has awarded Tottenham 10 penalties in the 58 matches [one every 5.8 games] he’s overseen compared to just 3 penalties for Arsenal in 64 matches [one every 21.33 games] is a worrying stat.
However, the good news is we haven’t lost any of the last five North London derbies he’s been in charge of so hopefully that particular stat continues on Sunday.
After taking on Tottenham this weekend, we have another huge game as we head to Old Trafford to face Manchester United and Andre Marriner has been announced as the referee for that game.
Marriner once famously sent Kieran Gibbs off after mistaking him for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during our 6-0 defeat to Chelsea back in 2014 so let’s hope we don’t see another horror-show from him [or Arsenal!] this time around.
