[Photos] 32-year-old spotted back in training with Arsenal ahead of Man Utd trip
Nacho Monreal has been snapped back on the training pitch this afternoon as Arsenal prepared for the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Wednesday evening.
Monreal hasn’t featured for the first team since suffering a hamstring injury at the start of October that was initially expected to keep him on the sidelines for around a month.
However, the 32-year-old suffered a setback during his recovery and has missed our last 10 matches in all competitions, which has left us short of options on the left side of defence.
But it looks like Nacho is closing in on making his comeback as the Spaniard has been spotted back out on the training pitches at London Colney this afternoon as the squad made their final preparations ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Old Trafford.
The official team news update on Arsenal.com said Monreal would be assessed ahead of the game to determine his availability but given his lack of football over the past two months, I doubt Unai Emery will consider him for the starting eleven.
Sead Kolasinac has performed extremely well during Monreal’s absence, particularly in the left wing-back role since we’ve switched to a back three, so I fully expect the Bosnian to keep his place against United.
However, it’s still great to see Monreal back on the pitch as he’ll be a very useful player to have as we head in to the hectic festive period with the experienced defender able to play left-back, left wing-back or even at centre-back.
