“Arsenal would be a dream” – 24-year-old star desperate to join boyhood club Arsenal

By on January 21, 2019

According to quotes in L’Equipe via the Mirror, on-loan Olympiacos centre-back Bjorn Engels has revealed he wants to play in the Premier League and his dream is to join Arsenal.

Engels was born in Belgian and was a product of the Club Brugge youth system before joining Olympiacos in the summer of 2017 and despite making 24 appearances for the Greek giants, he was sent out on loan to Reims last summer.

The 24-year-old has impressed in France as he’s been ever present in Ligue 1 since moving to Reims in August and has helped his club concede just 20 goals in 21 games so far – which is the fourth best defensive record in the entire division.

His impressive performances have led to links with a move to Everton but it seems Engels has his eye on a switch to North London as he’s revealed himself to be a boyhood Arsenal fan with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira among his idols.

The Belgian under-21 international defender says he wants to test himself in the Premier League at some stage in his career and described a move to Arsenal as his ultimate ‘dream’.

Engels is married to a scouser so his wife has ruled out any potential move to Manchester United but apparently she was cool with the possibility of him moving to Goodison Park.

When discussing moving to England, the centre-back is quoted by the Mirror as telling L’Equipe:

“Not right now, but if my level continues to rise, it will come. I’ve been there a couple of times in the past, maybe next time is the right one. Arsenal? It would be a dream.”

“She’s [my wife] from Liverpool and all her family is a fan of the Reds. When Everton was interested in me, she said to me laughing: Everton is ok, but never Man United!”

Unai Emery has been on the look out for defensive reinforcements so maybe if Engels continues to impress in France he may catch the eye of Arsenal’s network of scouts and bag his dream move to the Emirates at some point in the future.
