[Ratings & goals] Leicester 3-0 Arsenal: Sokratis & Koscielny woeful for Gunners
Arsenal’s woeful form continued as we collapsed to a 3-0 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power this afternoon.
We were poor from the off as Leicester dominated for much of the first half with Wilfried Ndidi and Jamie Vardy going close while Alex Iwobi missed Arsenal’s best chance of the first half.
Our task became much harder in the 36th minute when Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two very harsh bookings with the second particularly bad as he barely even made contact with James Maddison.
The hosts took the lead in the 59th minute when Youri Tielemans headed home while unmarked in the area. The second goal was pure comedy from Arsenal as we allowed a goal kick to cut through our defence and Jamie Vardy eventually made it 2-0.
The Leicester hitman scored a third in stoppage time to consign Arsenal to our fourth defeat in five games and leave our hopes of finishing in the top four hanging by a thread.
Here are my ratings:
Leno 8/10 | Superb save to keep it at 0-0 as he tipped an Ndidi header over but could do nothing for the Tielemans goal. Made a few great saves in the second half. Left badly exposed by our non-existent defence.
Maitland-Niles 5/10 | Should NEVER have been sent off. First booking was harsh but the second was ridiculous as he barely even made contact. Michael Oliver couldn’t wait to send him off.
Mustafi 5/10 | Struggled to contain Vardy in the first half but was slightly better when moved to right-back. Still awful though.
Sokratis 4/10 | Poor marking allowed Ndidi a free header at goal and he was roasted by Vardy a few times. Worryingly bad form right now.
Kolasinac 5.5/10 | Given a tough time by the Leicester attack. No threat going forward.
Mkhitaryan 4/10 | Absolutely anonymous. Honestly forgot he was playing at times. Not the man you want when you’re down to 10-men.
Torreira 6/10 | Probably the only player who looked like he gave a sh*t.
Xhaka 5/10 | Lost control of the midfield to Ndid and was nowhere near his best when on the ball.
Iwobi 5/10 | Fluffed a great chance to open the scoring in the 35th minute just a minute before the sending off. Huge miss. Subbed at half-time.
Aubameyang 5/10 | Arguably our biggest threat but that wasn’t hard as our attack was toothless.
Lacazette 5/10 | Missed a decent chance midway through the first half. Very little service to work from.
Subs:
Koscielny 4/10 | On at half-time for Iwobi. Poor marking to allow Tielemans to open the scoring and his defending for Vardy’s first was laughable.
Guendouzi 5/10, Nketiah 5/10
