[Ratings & goals] Arsenal 3-1 Valencia: Lacazette & Aubameyang star for Gunners

Arsenal had to come from behind with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both scoring to help us take control of our Europa League semi-final with a 3-1 win over Valencia this evening.

We started poorly and Valencia took a deserved lead in the 11th minute when Mouctar Diakhaby headed home at the far post following some woeful Arsenal defending. However, we levelled things up just minutes later when Aubameyang burst clear before teeing-up Lacazette to make it 1-1.

The French international then put Arsenal 2-1 ahead with a powerful header that was too much for Neto to keep out and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a vital third in the 90th minute to make it 3-1.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  7/10 | Could do nothing for the goal and made a crucial save to deny Gameiro in the second half with the score at 2-1.

Sokratis  6/10 | Fell asleep for the opening goal and had a few other nervy moments. Not been at his best lately.

Koscielny  7/10 | Made a couple of crucial tackles to prevent Valencia on the break in the second half. Limped off late on with an Achilles issue. Let’s hope it’s not serious.

Mustafi  6/10 | Poor positioning for the Valencia goal but was otherwise fairly solid by his standards.

Maitland-Niles  6.5/10 | More comfortable at right wing-back and was keen to get involved going forward. Crossing wasn’t great though.

Xhaka  7/10 | Gave away possession far too often in the first half and made an awful attempt to stop the opening goal but set-up Lacazette for his second with a wonderful delivery and was excellent in the second half.

Guendouzi  6/10 | Say a few nice touches from him but he didn’t look 100% match fit to me. Was off the pace at times and left us exposed in midfield alongside Xhaka.

Kolasinac  7/10 | Got into some wonderful positions but his final ball was poor at times, however, he popped up with a great cross to set-up Aubameyang for the crucial late third goal.

Ozil  7/10 | Worked hard and was central to all our dangerous attacking moves. Made a couple of key passes and played a part in the equaliser. Solid nights work.

Lacazette  8/10 | Nice cool finish to make it 1-1 and powerful header made it 2-1. Missed a golden chance to seal his hat-trick when he fluffed a header and then saw another great chance saved by Neto. Great performance but should have scored at least three.

Aubameyang  8/10 | Lovely burst of pace and lay-off to set-up Lacazette for the equaliser and teed-up the Frenchman again with a lovely cross in the second half. Scored a peach of a volley late on to make it 3-1.

Subs:

Torreira   7/10 | Big upgrade on Guendouzi after replacing the youngster early in the second half. Broke up play nicely.

Mkhitaryan   6.5/10 | Lively cameo and played a part in the third goal.
