Ratings & video goals: Burnley 1-3 Arsenal – Aubameyang stars for Gunners
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was once again the star as Arsenal ended a frustrating Premier League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
After missing a couple of early chances, Aubameyang opened the scoring when he pounced on a mistake at the back to race clear to make it 1-0 early in the second half. The in-form Arsenal hitman made it 2-0 with a superb volley at the far post to move him level with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.
Burnley pulled one back through Ashley Barnes but Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to seal the three points in stoppage time with a neat finish from a tight angle.
Here are my ratings:
Leno 6/10 | Got away with a poor clearance in the second half after he came flying out his box but great save to deny Lowton and another smart stop from Barnes. Could do little about the goal.
Lichtsteiner 6/10 | Did well defensively but offered very little going forward. Hopefully his last appearance in an Arsenal shirt.
Mustafi 6.5/10 | Typical Mustafi performance. Superb block on the line to keep it at 0-0 and looked to be doing well. But reminded us why he’s a liability with some lapses in concentration and sloppy for the Barnes goal.
Mavropanos 6/10 | Dealt well with the physical battle against Barnes but forced off in the first half with a groin injury.
Monreal 6.5/10 | Solid display from the Spaniard. Defensively strong against Hendrick and was a threat in attack.
Elneny 7/10 | Surprisingly good. Kept things simple and broke up play in front of the defence. Likely to be his last appearance and he did himself proud.
Guendouzi 7/10 | Very good in possession but caught out too often. Needs to keep his focus and be alert more.
Mkhitaryan 6/10 | Put it on a plate for Aubameyang to score his hat-trick but the striker fluffed it. Sparks of creativity but overall pretty average display.
Willock 7/10 | Impressive, especially in the first half. Very composed on the ball and always keen to get involved. Went close with a lovely shot.
Iwobi 6/10 | Got into some promising positions but not for the first time this season, his final ball was poor more often than not. Although he did assist Auba’s second with a nice cross.
Aubameyang 8/10 | Lovely goal to open the scoring and stunning volley made it 2-0. Missed a sitter to complete his hat-trick and hit the post in the first half. He’s such a great goal-scorer so let’s hope he takes this form into the Europa League final. Shared the Golden Boot.
Subs:
Koscielny 7/10 | Did well against the physical Burnley attack. Came through the game unscathed which is the most important thing.
Nketiah 7/10 | Scored the late third goal from a tight angle. Very pleased for him. Hopefully we see more of him next season.
It was nice to end on a win but unfortunately we still miss out on the top four as Tottenham finished one point ahead after drawing with Everton. We only have ourselves to blame as we took just one point from home games with Brighton and Palace. Now it’s time to focus on the Europa League final…
